About StudyGeology.org#
StudyGeology.org is an independent educational resource for secondary and early-undergraduate students, educators, and curious adult readers. Its purpose is to explain how Earth works by showing how geological conclusions are built from rocks, fossils, maps, field relationships, measurements, experiments, and models.
The site emphasizes source-based explanations, visual evidence, historical claim audits, and study resources that can be checked and reused. It also treats the history of geology as more than a sequence of famous names. Where evidence permits, the project includes the work of collectors, miners, technicians, surveyors, illustrators, local guides, institutions, and communities that helped produce geological knowledge.
Editorial accountability#
Artificial-intelligence tools may assist with research organization, synthesis, drafting, data transformation, and implementation. AI is not treated as a factual source, an author credential, or a scientific reviewer.
Each build states its editorial status in the page banner and article byline. A review build remains out of search and labels review as pending. A public build can display contributor identities, relevant experience, review scope, and dates only after those contributions have been recorded in the publication data.
Public release also requires an identified operator, a monitored contact route, appropriate privacy handling, and truthful operating and funding disclosures. An unmonitored address or invented organization is not an acceptable substitute.
What the site publishes#
- focused geology lessons that answer a defined reader question;
- evidence-led histories of geological ideas, methods, maps, and institutions;
- comparison tables, timelines, claim audits, diagrams, and quizzes;
- citations to official, primary, academic, museum, archive, and specialist educational sources;
- clear distinctions among observation, measurement, interpretation, model, uncertainty, and historical belief.
The project does not create a separate page for every keyword variation, glossary term, disputed founder, or research file. A page should exist only when it has a distinct reader task, enough evidence, original explanatory value, an appropriate review plan, and a useful place in the site's architecture.
What the site is not#
StudyGeology.org is not a geological survey, observatory, university, emergency service, engineering consultancy, medical service, mineral-identification laboratory, or investment adviser. It does not issue earthquake or volcano alerts, predict individual hazards, certify a site as safe, or provide personalized engineering, collecting, health, or evacuation advice.
Educational field content is not permission to enter a mine, cave, quarry, cliff, road cut, restricted area, or private property. Readers must use current instructions from responsible local authorities and qualified professionals. Emergency messages are not monitored by this site.
Publication requirements#
Before pages are presented as fully reviewed publications, the project must assign genuine authorship and editorial responsibility, obtain appropriate scientific and historical review, clear image and data rights, configure a working corrections route, and record real publication and review dates. Builds that do not satisfy those conditions remain visibly labeled and non-indexable.
